The name of the snapshot is the date and time that the virtual machine was powered off and the description is Automatic snapshot created when powering off. The snapshot appears in the Snapshot Manager. Takes a snapshot of the virtual machine state after it is powered off. When you revert to a snapshot, you return the memory, settings, and virtual disks of the virtual machine to the state that they were in when you took the snapshot. You need to power off the VM and use a tool that ships with VMware Workstation. Merging Split VMDKs Unfortunately merging those pieces afterwards requires downtime. Revert to the parent snapshot of the current state of the virtual machine. Next time you create a new VM, choose ‘store virtual disk as a single file’ to avoid this issue. Power off the virtual machine without making any changes to snapshots. To configure snapshot options for a selected virtual machine, select VM > Settings, click the Options tab, and select Snapshots. A snapshot captures the entire state of the virtual machine at the time you take the snapshot, including the contents of the virtual machine memory, the virtual machine settings, and the state of all virtual disks.

When you take a snapshot, Workstation Pro preserves the state of a virtual machine so that you can return to the same state repeatedly.
